Frances M. Dresser began her work with the Roberts Commission in July 1945 serving as Secretary to Charles H. Sawyer (1) during his appointment as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, and when he became Dean of the School of Architecture and Design at Yale in 1947. Dresser was married to John Herron and was the sister to Louisa Dresser Campbell, curator and specialist in early American arts.

(1) Charles H. Sawyer later worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in the Art Looting Investigation Unit which was closely associated with the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives branch.
